“Like many artists I go back to and explore the subjects I have gotten to know and love over many years of observation. Painting from motifs that are very personal and full of visual stimulation for me, I try and do another painting that has a lasting quality and feels dusted with an honest energy full of colour and light. Every painting begins with the desire to make an object that has a balance of formal elements and emotional content.” - Gregory Hardy 2017
Greg Hardy’s latest exhibition, ‘Of Sky and Water’ continues the artist’s exploration of his native Saskatchewan’s big, brilliant and tumultuous skies. Hardy’s paintings are much more than typical landscape paintings. Indeed, once we remove ourselves from the subject matter his masterful use of intense colour combined with the physicality of the paint’s application focuses the viewer on the abstract, formal quality of the work and shows us the artist’s obvious love of paint and its potential.
