Our Many Paths
July 25 - July 25, 2019
Edmonton Gallery District Association Presents - Our Many Paths
In conjunction with Edmonton’s Heritage Festival, the Gallery Walk Association is pleased to present “Our Many Paths”, a collective exhibition celebrating our cultural differences. Each of the seven galleries has developed exhibitions with an emphasis unique to the participating artists. The best part of heritage is the living traditions that still operate in our personal lives and lives of our communities.
Tim Okamura investigates identity, the urban environment, metaphor, and cultural iconography through a unique method of painting – one that combines an essentially ‘realist’ approach to the figure with collage, spray paint and mixed media.

Unexpected Landscapes
April 06 - April 23, 2013
Barbara Hirst’s “Unexpected Landscapes” colourfully and whimsically present reflections in glass buildings, surreal garden scenes, and views through windows or doorways. Suggesting a type of "urban escapism", these acrylic paintings are about diversion and distraction in the service of amusement and reverie.

The BIG Idea
June 21 - July 05, 2012
The BIG Idea
A Visual Exploration of Contemporary Culture & Obesity, curated by Julian Forrest
June 21 - July 5, 2012
Opening Reception: Thursday, June 21 from 7 - 9 pm
Responding to issues ranging from the cyborg, the medicalization of the body, the obesogenic environment, the psychological complexity of obesity, body and boundaries or obesity and space, to positions on consumption and consumerism, or the “super-sized”, The BIG Idea features ten artists from across Canada, the United States, and the UK.
Working within a range of media, including installation, performance, video, audio, sculpture, print-based media, and photography, these artists offer divergent viewpoints on the subject of obesity. Curator Julian Forrest hopes the work will bring new perspectives to the subject that challenge, support, and hopefully broaden the dialogue surrounding obesity, and perhaps foster opportunities for future multi-disciplinary collaborations.
This exhibition was organized in conjunction with the third Canadian Obesity Student Meeting, hosted at the University of Alberta. The conference brings together over 200 students and new professionals representing academia, industry, government, and non-profit organizations. The third COSM represents a partnership between the Canadian Obesity Network, Universite Laval, and the University of Alberta.
Noted American performance artist, writer and sociologist, Kimberly Dark, will open both the exhibition and COSM conference by giving several short presentations. Her Peter Robertson Gallery performance will occur at 7:30 pm, on Thursday, June 21.

The Premise of Nature
March 10 - March 27, 2012
The changing landscape of Alberta serves as source material for Brenda Christiansen’s paintings. Turning to settings that are often overlooked, the works are not mimetic representations, but echoes of areas where human presence and the pastoral have collided. They explore the shifting relationship between persons and the landscape within the parameters of contemporary Canadian culture. Past series have referenced Fort McMurray, gas exploration along the Forestry Trunk Road, trail erosion in Jasper National Park and the disruption caused by pipelines near Redwater, Alberta.
In the Studio
July 09 - July 26, 2011
Recreating Violet Owen's studio in our upper gallery space, this installation invites the viewer to experience figurative drawing, painting, and sculpture through the eyes of the artist.

In the Grid
June 09 - June 25, 2011
Ken Macklin brings a markedly whimsical vocabulary to abstract sculpture. His latest exhibition, In the Grid, presents striking assemblages of salvaged ceramic dishes and painted industrial steel. Mesh grids undulate organically, giving a nod to traditional formal concerns of descriptive line and volume, while painted steel orbs and highly coloured ceramic shards introduce a playful humanistic narrative.

In Defense of Poetry
May 21 - June 04, 2011
The magnetic pull of Bobbie Burger’s still lifes and landscapes lies in their effortless exuberance. Succulent and lushly flowing brushwork interlaced with passages of vibrant colour bring these attractive floral paintings to life.

Keller Colour
October 02, 2010
The work of Edmonton native, Terrence Keller, resonates with traditions of abstract modernist painting. Through the use of thick, textured paint, Keller creates sweeping, spontaneous works and gestural strokes. His alluring paintings shimmer with subtle shifts of tonality.
July 08 - July 17, 2010
Peter Robertson Gallery, in conjunction with The Front Gallery, is proud to host the U of A Students of Sculpture's From the Human Body 2010 exhibition. The selected works from the 21 emerging artists are centered around concepts of the human form and offer compelling insight into the future and creativity of sculpture. Please join us in supporting the University of Alberta Fine Arts program and its talented student body.

Water Gazing
June 12 - July 06, 2010
'Water Gazing,' the new collection from Barbara Hirst, reveals the intricacy of reflection in colourful and delicate renderings of coastal life. Mirrored in the water, these scenes are transformed from a three-dimensional world into a shimmering and multifaceted expression.
